Supervisor endorsements following candidate forum

-

I attended the League of Women Voters candidate forum at Butte College. At stake were the positions of District 1 and 4 Supervisors. The format was more question and answer than actual debate, and the proceedings were pleasantly civil.

These positions are listed as nonpartisan, but few of us can escape our ideologies. That being said, although I vote Democrat I’ll be voting for Bill Connelly. His experience and knowledge allowed him to swab the deck with A.J. Greene’s, well, greenness. Additionally, he is savvy enough to suck up to a good letter writer.

I’ve been more thoroughly following the District 4 race. To me it is a race between status quo and new thinking. I liked Hilderbrand’s answers and her unwillingness to be cornered by hypotheticals, where the details of a matter would be deciding factors. I couldn’t help but notice that the more complex the question, the more likely Kimmelshue was to answer by agreeing with Hilderbrand, failing to add anything of his own.

Kimmelshue touts two things, service and endorsements. While Hilderbrand’s service has been different in kind, and in my opinion less politically (popularity) motivated, it certainly has not been different in measure. As far as endorsements, Kimmelshue’s are very establishment oriented, virtually guaranteeing that a continuation of policies that have clearly let Butte County down will continue under his watch. I was not impressed with his thinking and still hold him suspect over his campaign contributions. I question who he would be representing.
