Durham girls edge Chico in dual

The Durham High girls wrestling team claimed wins in each of its first three matches to defeat Chico High 21-18 in a dual Thursday night.

After Brianne Ortega received a forfeit for the Trojans at 108 pounds, Kiera Teague (113) claimed a 6-2 win by decision and Kai Kenney (118) followed with a pin in 1 minute, 11 seconds. Durham’s Gisele Gutierrez also claimed a win at 162 via injury default.

For the Panthers, Melody Hervey (128) picked up the team’s first win on a 6-2 decision. Abigail Murphy (133) hung on for an 8-7 win by decision. McKenna Lowe (139) won by forfeit, and finally, in the heavyweigh­t division, Rhema Geddes won by fall in just 38 seconds.

Prep Girls Soccer

ORLAND 2, PARADISE 0 >> Amber Kurth scored twice, Franchesca Martins earned her sixth shut out of the season at goalkeeper, and defenders Hayley Sites and Melanie Flores played well for the Trojans, Orland coach Tim Milhorn said.

No stats were provided by Paradise.

Next up, Orland (7-4-2, 2-0-1 Butte View League) will face Oroville on the road Tuesday. Paradise (410, 1-2 Westside League) travels to face Gridley on Tuesday.

WILLOWS 2, DURHAM 2 >> Ryan Feeney and Adolfo Garcia each scored for the Honkers (3-9-2).

Prep Girls Basketball

GRIDLEY 54, CORNING 32 >> Ally Mardesich led with 20 points in the Bulldogs’ road win.

Sierra Brady recorded 17 points as Gridley (14-8) shut out Corning in the entire second half.

CHICO 47, RED BLUFF 40 >> Jasten Del Carlo led the Panthers with 12 points and seven rebounds. Phoenix Driscoll added 10 points and Quentin Thomas grabbed five steals and had six assists.

Marvelous Owens scored nine points and had eight rebounds and six assists for Chico (12-8, 3-2 Eastern Athletic League).

PLEASANT VALLEY 65, ENTERPRISE 58 >> Aaron Gomez

led the Vikings with 18 points and Jake Kremer added 17. Ned Joyce chipped in nine points for PV (14-8, 4-1 EAL).

LAS PLUMAS 65, WHEATLAND 60 >> Jayden Burgess led the Thunderbir­ds with 19 points and seven assists. Sebastian Keck added 16 points, 14 of which were scored in the second half for LP.

Chris Silverthor­n had seven assists and Josh Sprugue grabbed 10 rebounds and four steals for LP (11-9).

PARADISE 53, ORLAND 28 >> Ben Baber led the Bobcats with 14 points. Drew Levin netted 10 points and Jackson Wright had nine for Paradise (10-9).

Javier Huerta led Orland (6-15) with 10 points.
