PV girls hoops team wins on road

Vikings beat EAL leader Enterprise

After suffering back-toback home losses over the last week, the Pleasant Valley girls basketball team traveled to Redding on Friday and came away with a 63-56 win over Enterprise.

PV’s Christiane Carlisle made all six of the Vikings’ 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points. Kylie Matthews added 14 points, Rebekah Horn had eight points and Shaley Vieg collected seven points.

The Vikings led 39-33 at halftime, but were outscored 18-8 in the third quarter to face a four-point deficit heading into the final quarter. Enterprise, which had won each of its four EAL games prior to Friday, was held to five points in the fourth.

PV (9-10, 3-2 EAL) returns home Saturday for a non-league game against Colfax, scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.

CHICO 63, RED BLUFF 39 >> Talysha Wilkerson led Chico with 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals in the home win.

Campbell Vieg added eight points, four steals and three assists. Tessa Kinney chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.

The Panthers (13-9, 3-2 EAL) will travel to face Shasta on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

SUTTER 44, OROVILLE 37 >> The Tigers fell at home, snapping a two-game losing streak, in a WestsideBu­tte View League crossover game.

Nevaeh Weston led Oroville with 11 points and Kiara Johnson added eight points.

The Tigers (11-11, 2-1 WSL) play at Orland on Tuesday.

Prep Boys Basketball

GRIDLEY 70, CORNING 31 >> The Bulldogs claimed another lopsided win at home, led by Grant Tull’s 27 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Cameron Erickson reached double-digits with 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Colby Norton chipped in six points and eight rebounds.

No stats were provided by Corning.

Gridley (14-7, 2-1 Butte View League) plays host to Paradise on Tuesday, and Corning (4-14, 1-2 Westside League) will travel to Wheatland for a Tuesday road tilt.

Prep Girls Soccer

PLEASANT VALLEY 4, SHASTA 2>> The Vikings forced a three-way tie in the EAL standings by defeating Shasta at home.

In what head coach Eric Snedeker called the Vikings’ “first complete game of the year” and a total team victory shared among all players, Ashlin Stevens scored twice for PV, with Anna Converse and Rylee Jellison each adding one goal.

Jillian Weber assisted two of the Vikings’ scores. Sofia Maldonado and Chloe Haun accounted for one assist each. Snedeker also commended the strong play of Faylinn Berkowitz in the midfield.

Goalkeeper Annika Gnesda tallied seven saves.

With the win, PV (8-6-3, 4-1 EAL) moves into a tie for first place alongside Shasta (11-3, 4-1) and Chico (15-3, 4-1).

The Vikings will face Foothill on the road Wednesday, before a showdown with the Panthers on Friday at Chico High.

CHICO 2, FOOTHILL 0 >> Riley Freeman scored the Panthers’ first goal unassisted, taking the ball upfield and slotting in a shot from the side, before Erica Rodriguez scored on a corner kick from Priscilla Ward.

Goalkeeper Heather Lockard recorded two saves for Chico.

Next up, the Panthers play host to Red Bluff on Wednesday.

College Baseball

FOLSOM LAKE 9, BUTTE 1 >> The Roadrunner­s opened their 2020 season with a road loss in Folsom.

Butte’s Sammy Gonzales scored on a Logan Meyers sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, but the Roadrunner­s went scoreless for the remaining eight frames. Gonzales led the Roadrunner­s with two hits, and Earl Johnson added a triple.

Matt Carrier pitched 2.2 innings as the Roadrunner­s’ starter, striking out four batters while giving up five hits and one earned run.

Folsom Lake’s Austin Caviness, a Pleasant Valley High alumnus, went 2-for-5 in the Falcons’ leadoff spot.

Butte (0-1) and Folsom Lake continue their threegame series Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Butte Valley.
