Orland overcomes first-half deficit to beat Oroville in OT

The Orland boys basketball team edged Oroville 65-64 in overtime Tuesday on the Tigers’ home floor.

Orland trailed 31-23 at halftime and 43-34 after three quarters, however, a 22-13 fourth quarter in favor of Orland tied the game at 56-all at the end of regulation

For Orland (7-15, 0-4 Butte View League), Javier Huerta led with 15 points, including five of Orland’s 13 3-pointers. Austin Burreson, Evven Orozco and Hunter Foster each added 12 points for Orland. Foster had three 3-pointers, while Orozco and Blake Smith each had 10 rebounds.

Troy Moench led Oroville (11-8, 3-2 Westside League) with 31 points while Johnny Holmes finished with 11 points. GRIDLEY 65, PARADISE 45 >> The Gridley boys won at home led by 18 points from Cameron Erickson and 16 points from Tony Murillo. Grant Tull scored 14 points for Gridley (15-7, 3-1 BVL) while Colby Norton added 11.

For Paradise (11-9, 2-2 WSL), Ben Baber led the way with 13 points. Jackson Wright added nine points and Ethan Swart seven.

Prep girls basketball

OROVILLE 56, ORLAND 37 >> Odessa Laster scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, in the road win for Oroville (12-11, 3-2 WSL).

Alexis Kearney and Aiyana Lee each scored eight points for the Tigers while Kiara Johsnon added six.

For Orland (6-15, 0-4

BVL), Nyla Alva led with 15 points, while Regan Cauthon finished with eight points and Tylia Lamar seven.

GRIDLEY 51, PARADISE 21 >> Gridley won on the road, led by 20 points from Haley Gustavsen. Kennedy Tull scored 13 points and Sierra Brady added 10 points for Gridley (15-8, 4-1 BVL).

For Paradise (3-17, 0-4 WSL), Alysa Winebarger scored 14 of the Bobcats’ 21 points.

HAMILTON 47, EAST NICOLAUS 32 >> Berenize Trujillo-Mendoza led Hamilton with 16 points in the Braves’ road victory.

Madison Pankratz added 12 points and Ally Ponke eight for Hamilton (13-10, 2-2 Mid-Valley League). DURHAM 40, WILLIAMS 25 >> Ali Smith led Durham with eight points and 10 rebounds in the road victory.

Melody Elwood added seven points for Durham (13-5, 4-0 MVL).

SUTTER 56, LAS PLUMAS 38 >> Las Plumas lost its home game to Sutter.

The Thunderbir­ds were led by 22 points and four rebounds from Shawnia Copple. Courtney Cobb added six points on a pair of 3-pointers.

LP and Sutter were tied after three quarters before Sutter outscored the Thunderbir­ds (8-13, 2-3 WSL) 22-4 in the final quarter.

Prep girls soccer

LAS PLUMAS 1, SUTTER 0 >> Las Plumas beat Sutter on the road, with goalkeeper­s Zach Fairbanks and Vidal Gonzalez splitting the shutout. Fairbanks started the game, before Gonzalez played the second half and kept the shutout alive for LP (7-5-1, 3-1 WSL).

Edvin Petrovic scored the lone goal of the game, assisted by Hagen Warden. ORLAND 3, OROVILLE 0 >> Franchesca Martins scored two goals and Payton Cox scored on a volley from 28 yards away to lead Orland (8-4-2, 4-0-1 BVL).

Orland coach Tim Milhorn credited defenders Melanie Flores, Michelle Ramirez and Hayley Sites with strong play in the shutout.

Monday’s results College men’s basketball

COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS 77, BUTTE 75 >> Butte lost on the road to Siskiyous, led by 20 points from Noah Zoppi.

Shakwon Lewis and Kole Riccomini each scored 12 points for the Roadrunner­s (12-9, 2-3 Golden Valley Conference).

Eric Marbley Jr. scored 10 points for Butte, which next hosts Siskiyous at 1 p.m. Saturday at Butte.

College women’s basketball

BUTTE 78, COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS 71 >> Butte beat College of the Siskiyous in Weed led by 17 points from Elyana Croninger.

Chantel Williams scored 13 points, Samantha Caires added 12 points, with Chloe Mayer and Aleia Milano each scoring 10 points for Butte (18-5, 4-1 GVC).

The Roadrunner­s scored 24 points in each of the third and fourth quarters in its first game after the death of former Los Angeles

Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, who wore the No. 24 for the final 10 years of his career that concluded in 2016.

UNIVERSITY PREP 70, OROVILLE 47 >> Austin Kearney led Oroville with 13 points in the Tigers’ road loss to U-Prep. Daymon Kean scored eight, while Johnny Holmes and Trent Dasilva each added seven points for Oroville (11-7, 3-1 WSL).

Prep ski and snowboard

CHICO, PLEASANT VALLEY, DURHAM AT NORTHSTAR >> Chico’s Ziona Jankuska won the girls snowboard race with a combined tworun time of 3 minutes and 4.43 seconds, finishing with a best run time of 1:30.86 in run No. 1. Deagan Nevis finished second for Chico and Cami Hensley finished fourth, while Riley Hurd placed fifth for Pleasant Valley.

In the boys combined duals, Tyler Mays took first for PV with a combined time of 2:38.13, followed by teammate Ryan Dyrr who placed second with a tworun time of 2:40.03. Brodie Schreder placed fourth for Chico.

In the boys ski event, Chico’s Jesse Travers won in 2:36.11, while Dylan Chandley was the top finisher for PV, finishing third in 2:40.84.

In the girls ski event, Durham’s lone competitor Jillian Larrabee took first place in 2:22.15, 17.2 seconds ahead of secondplac­e finisher Ivy Smith of Chico.
