HAYWARD >> The Chico State men’s basketball team’s nine-game winning streak was snapped Thursday night as Cal State East Bay held on for a 65-63 win in Hayward.

With five seconds remaining and Isaiah Brooks at the line, Brooks’ missed free throw attempt was grabbed by East Bay’s Evan Wardlow to seal the game and let the clock run out.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 18 in the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll, fell behind 36-23 at halftime. Chico State shot 32 percent from the field and was 0-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Wildcats also shot a dismal 7-of-21 from the free-throw line in the first half and finished shooting 15-of-35 from the stripe.

Justin Briggs led Chico State with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Calvin Geraci had 17 points including a 3-pointer to get within 53-49 with about six minutes left to play.
