Panthers edge Live Oak in home dual

The Chico High girls wrestling team edged Live Oak 31-30 Thursday night at home.

Chico’s Chong Lor captured the 118-pound bout with a pin over Alehandra Gil in 1 minute, 41 seconds.

Isabella Mitchell won by a 7-4 decision over Luz Aguilar at 123 pounds and Melody Hervy pinned Pachia Thao in 1:23 to take the 128 match.

Abigail Murphy (133) defeated Estrella Tinoco with a 12-0 major decision and Chico’s final pin came from Rhema Geddes. Geddes pinned Elizabeth Arriaga in 38 seconds in the heavyweigh­t bout.

Dylan Dawson (113) received a forfeit.

Chico (2-1) competes in Orland Wednesday.

Prep girls basketball

PLEASANT VALLEY 58, RED BLUFF 52 >> Shaley Vieg and Mallory Moore each tallied 13 points to lead the Vikings to a road win against

Red Bluff.

Christiane Carlile added 11 points and Cassidy King had eight points.

PV (10-11, 4-2 Eastern Athletic League) hosts Foothill at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LAS PLUMAS 42, ORLAND 20 >> Shawnia Copple led the Thunderbir­ds with 16 points at home.

Lillee Madison led LP with nine rebounds.

Orland was led by Regan Cauthon who scored six points.

LP (9-13, 3-3 Westside League) plays at Gridley at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Orland (6-16, 0-4 Butte View League) hosts Corning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

DURHAM 58, EAST NICOLAUS 23 >> The Trojans remain unbeaten in the MidValley League after a win at home.

Karena Bryant led Durham with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Devani Sparks had nine points and Ali Smith finished with eight points and 12 boards.

Durham (14-5, 5-0 MVL) hosts Hamilton at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

HAMILTON 46, WILLIAMS 21 >> Berenize Trujillo-Mendoza went off to score 25 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals to lead Hamilton on the road.

Ally Ponke added eight points and 12 rebounds for the Braves.

Hamilton (14-10, 3-2 Mid-Valley League) plays at Durham at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Prep girls soccer

ORLAND 1, LAS PLUMAS 0 >> Amber Kurth put in a header off a corner kick from Payton Cox to give Orland (9-4-2, 5-0-1 Butte View League) the win over Las Plumas (5-9-3, 1-3 Westside league).

Orland keeper Franchesca Martins earned her ninth shutout, and forwards Clarisa Garcia and Melanie McClintock played well for the Trojans.

College baseball

BUTTE 9, WEST VALLEY 5 >> The Butte College baseball team grabbed its first win of the season with a 9-5 victory in Saratoga.

The Roadrunner­s dished out 12 hits and were led by Isaac Schuck who went 3-for-3 with a double, three walks and two RBIs.

Designated hitter Mark Taylor finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while catcher Kyle McMullen added a pair of RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Sammy Gonzales had a triple and Earl Johnson, Logan Meyers and Brennan White each had a double.

Colby Stilwell earned his first win on the mound after entering the game in the fifth inning. Stilwell scattered six hits and allowed one run while striking out three to seal the win.

Butte (1-3) continues the three-game series at 1 p.m. Friday in Saratoga.
