Pot, firearms, fighting roosters allegedly found during raid

- Staff reports

ORLAND » Glenn County detectives arrested one man and identified another property owner after they found marijuana plants, firearms and roosters that appeared to be used for fighting.

Detectives with the Glenn Investigations and Narcotics Task Force, Glenn County Sheriff’s Office deputies, as well as Glenn County Deputy Probation and Orland Police Department officers executed a search warrant on an 18-acre parcel on County Road 18 in Orland after several citizen complaints were received.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the search yielded a total of 485 marijuana plants across two grow sites and four firearms.

Jesus Cervantes-Godinez, 25, was contacted at the grow site and later arrested on suspicion

of cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale.

Recreational marijuana use was legalized in California on Jan. 1, 2018, after the passage of Proposition 64. Adults 21 and over are permitted to possess up to one ounce of dried marijuana, eight grams of concentrated cannabis and can grow up to six plants for personal use, depending on state and local restrictions. However, selling marijuana without a license remains illegal.

“It is still a crime to sell marijuana in California — or to possess it with the intent to sell it — other than with both a state and local license,” the release stated.

“The County of Glenn adopted Ordinance number 15.797.020 which prohibits any outdoor marijuana to be grown in all zoning districts of Glenn County. The ordinance also prohibits the delivery of marijuana.”

Additionally, detectives and officers found 28 roosters that they believed were raised for the purpose of illegal cockfighting. During the investigation, they identified Roger Montalvo, 37, as the person leasing the property, and claim Montalvo was responsible for maintaining the property for the purpose of cultivating marijuana and illegal possession of cockfighting roosters.

The release stated that a request will be sent to the Glenn County District Attorney’s Office for the aforementioned charges.
