SUZANNE PAULETTE MILOSEVICH

-

5-2-1929 / 3-15-2021

Suzanne was born in 1929 to Maurice and Louise Sauriat in Renne, France. She was always a free spirit and full of life. She came of age during the German occupation and had many memories of that time including going to her middle school where German soldiers lived. She was gifted in learning languages and went on to get her Masters’s degree at the Sorbonne in Paris. After teaching in England, she came back to France to teach on a US Air Force Base. It was here that she met her husband Vince Milosevich.

Their first daughter Laura was born in France in 1956. In 1957 Suzanne emigrated to the US. (Much to the dismay of her father). Once in the US, the young family settled in the Los Angeles while Vince went to UCLA for his doctorate. It was a happy and social time and they had two more girls - Leslie, then Lisa. In 1965 they moved to Chico. They divorced in 1968 but she stayed in Chico until 2018. Her fearless adventuring continued with the girls To Mexico on a bus in 1970, then on a cross country camping trip to the World’s Fair in Spokane, WA with a detour into Canada. All in a tiny Toyota Corolla which barely made it over the hills. Other countless travels that will be forever remembered. Once in Tahoe with lightning striking feet away, to the giant banana slugs in the Mendocino National Forest. In 1994 She went to Normandy for the 50th anniversary of the battle at Normandy. Her love of travel took her to Russia, China, Sicily, Portugal, and Turkey. She often traveled with her daughters and granddaughter and was able to pass that love on. Later, Suzanne loved to visit her grandchildren and share her love of cookies and chocolate whenever possible. When they were old enough, she would take them hiking and biking while keeping a brisk pace all the time. Her travels and touring continued even when she started slowing down.

She was a well-known figure in Chico from the “Ollie” classes and could be seen riding all over town on her bike. Suzanne will be remembered for many things but mostly for her free and feisty spirit that she passed down to her girls and grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed greatly. She is survived by daughters Laura and Leslie Milosevich, Lisa Matthews, grandchildren, Marisa Villarreal, Owen Milosevich, and Ian and Tommie Matthews.
