Dynamic group Vocal Point brings harmonies to concert
A musically impressive and visually dynamic BYU Vocal Point will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 the Center for the Arts, 1475 East Ave. in Chico.
This nine-man a capella group entertains with rock, pop, country, jazz and R&B in a family-friendly concert. They take familiar songs, deliver new renditions, complete with all the complex instrumentation which is done entirely with their mouths.
The concert is being cohosted by the Student Chapter of the National Association for Music Education at Chico State and the Vocal Music Department at Chico High School where Vocal Point will be offering a vocal music workshop for local high school and college music students the day of their concert.
The only instruments on stage belong to the nine voices of the nationally renowned a cappella group which originates from Brigham Young University in Utah. Vocal Point captures audiences throughout the world with their stunning, high energy performances and elaborate music videos. These crowd pleasers have it all: rock, pop, country, jazz and R&B that makes their family-friendly concerts showstoppers.
Besides performing on stage, recording albums and being on television, Vocal Point has produced over 30 music videos. The group performs for over 50,000 people each year regularly selling out shows weeks in advance. Head of this nineman marvel is McKay Crockett. Under his direction, Vocal Point propels their creative harmonies far beyond the traditional four-part possibilities.
