Cousins rallies NFC to Pro Bowl win

-

Kirk Cousins threw three touchdowns passes Sunday to rally the NFC to a 35-33 victory over the AFC in the Pro Bowl Games and end that conference's five-game losing streak.

Cousins completed 15 of 19 passes for 150 yards in the third and final flag football game of the NFL's reformatted all-star game, which gave the NFC the victory. His AFC counterpart, Derek Carr, was 6 of 12 for 104 yards, two TDs and an interception.

Based on the earlier flag games and skills competitions, the AFC took a 2115 lead into the final flag game.

The Pro Bowl changed its format this season, eliminating the traditional game and replacing it with three flag football games played on a 50-yard field and a series of skills competitions.

Each of the first two flag games were worth six points and each skills event was three. The total points were accumulated to form the score entering the third and final flag game. PANTHERS HIRE EVERO AS NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR >> The Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with Ejiro Evero on Sunday to be their new defensive coordinator.

The 42-year-old Evero was the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator last season and was one of nine candidates to interview for the Panthers head coaching position before owner David Tepper hired Frank Reich.

The Broncos ranked seventh in the league in total defense in 2022 under Evero and were 14th in points allowed. Evero previously worked as the Broncos secondary coach before being promoted to coordinator.

He has also experience coaching with the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

KYRIE IRVING GOING TO THE DALLAS MAVERICKS >> AllStar point guard Kyrie Irving is getting his wish and being traded by the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The Mavericks will trade Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and a package of draft picks to the Nets, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because neither team had announced the move.

In return, Dallas will have another star-level player to pair alongside MVP candidate Luka Doncic.

The move comes just days after Irving told the Nets that he wanted a trade. He was not with Brooklyn for its game Saturday night, with the team saying he was injured and that he was excused from being at the arena.

It also ends a tumultuous stint in Brooklyn.

Irving signed with his hometown team in 2019 with hopes of winning a title while playing alongside Kevin Durant.

WARRIORS SAY CURRY SIDELINED WITH LEFT LEG INJURY >>

Golden State AllStar guard Stephen Curry will be sidelined due to injuries to his left leg, the team said Sunday, and the Warriors

aren't sure how long he'll be out.

Curry was diagnosed with partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligament and interosseous membrane in his left leg and also has a lower-leg contusion. He left Saturday's game against Dallas with 2:01 left in the third quarter, after his wrapped left leg — which he originally hurt Thursday in a matchup against Denver — appeared to buckle as he played defense.

He immediately began hopping in obvious discomfort, then left the game and didn't return.

Curry, who is averaging 29.4 points per game this season, won't play Monday against Oklahoma City. And with the All-Star Game two weeks away, it now seems very possible

that Curry might not be there.

US SKIERS TO DON CLIMATE CHANGE-THEMED RACE SUITS AT WORLDS >> Looking cool is just the tip of the iceberg for Mikaela Shiffrin, Travis Ganong and the rest of the U.S. ski team when they debut new race suits at the world championships.

Even more, they want everyone thinking about climate change.

The team's predominantly blue-and-white suits depict an image of ice chunks floating in the ocean. It's a concept based on a satellite photo of icebergs breaking due to high temperatures. The suit was designed in collaboration with Kappa, the team's technical apparel sponsor, and the nonprofit organization Protect Our Winters (POW).
