Banged-up Celtics lose Brown, hold off 76ers

BOSTON >> With three of Boston’s regular starters out — and Jaylen Brown soon to join them — Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White scored 19 points apiece to lead the Celtics to a 106-99 victory over the Philadelph­ia 76ers on Wednesday night.

Marcus Smart, Robert Williams III and Al Horford all missed the game with injuries. Brown, who missed the previous game with an illness, exited after colliding with Jayson Tatum under the basket when they were both going for an offensive rebound. TIMBERWOLV­ES 143, JAZZ 118 >> Anthony Edwards scored 31 points and Jaylen Nowell added a career-high 30 to lead Minnesota to a win over Utah amid word the Timberwolv­es, Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers were part of an eight-player swap hours ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

In the deal, the Timberwolv­es sent D’Angelo Russell to the Lakers, where he played his first two NBA seasons from 2015-17. Utah shipped Nickeil Alexander Walker and Mike Conley to Minnesota and dealt Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley to the Lakers. The Jazz received Russell Westbrook, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Damian Jones from the Lakers, as well as a firstround draft pick in 2027. The eight-time All-Star was traded to the Mavs on Sunday from the Brooklyn Nets. He was part of a 13-0 spurt early in the game, scoring eight points on a jumper and back-to-back 3-pointers.
