GAYLE JEAN REBISH
Gayle Jean Rebish, avid reader, passionate philanthropist, and dedicated animal advocate, passed away on December 25, 2022. She was a longtime resident of San Francisco’s Marina district. Gayle was born in Oroville, California on September 2, 1947. She was the first-born child of Walter and Bertha Rebish who hailed from Montana before moving to Oroville.
Gayle attended primary and secondary schools in Oroville, graduating from Oroville High School, class of 1965. Gayle studied and excelled in ballet and dance and taught dance classes privately after school.
After graduating from Oroville High School, Gayle attended Butte Community College. Being an independent soul, Gayle moved to the "big city" of San Francisco where she began a career with the US Postal Service as a part-time letter carrier and later was promoted to management, enjoying a more than 35-year career prior to retirement.
Gayle was known for her extraordinary support of countless charitable organizations. In her free-time, Gayle volunteered at the Salvation Army and numerous animal rescue organizations, always looking for an opportunity to help others. Gayle was a supporter of the SPCA and the Marin Mammal Rescue Center. She never turned away a stray cat or dog. Gayle also contributed monetarily to countless other causes from supporting human rights and alleviating the suffering of others to wildlife conservation.
Gayle had a curious spirit and was a voracious reader, studying the classics and enjoyed everything San Francisco as well as traveling abroad to South and Central America, Southeast Asia, Europe and islands in the south pacific and the Caribbean.
Gayle is survived by her younger brother, Michael Rebish of Arizona and many cousins in Montana and Arizona. Gayle had a kind and generous spirit and will be missed by her family and friends.
