Valley’s Edge is right for future of Chico

- — Chris Daniels, Chico

Recent arguments regarding Valley’s Edge project have motivated me to share my perspective. “Chicoans” have voiced concerns about housing needs for our teachers, medical staff, firemen, cooks, waitresses, our elderly, and those that need affordable housing.

When I first heard of Valley’s Edge, I was thrilled. It is well thought out, follows the City Plan, addresses water usage, environmental impact, open spaces and it will be beautiful. Valley’s Edge offers a wide range of diversified housing, near the freeway for commuters, and provides future homeowners the opportunity to walk/bike to businesses and parks making multiple vehicles unnecessary.

Some citizens complain that the city hasn’t addressed our housing crisis. The city approved Valley’s Edge, now citizens complain that the project doesn’t address concerns, like affordable housing, environmental impact and water usage. Valley’s Edge follows the City Plan and addresses those concerns and more.

A petition campaign has started using misinformation to stop Valley’s Edge. This is wrong, the citizens of Chico must educate themselves about the City Plan, government process and Valley’s Edge.

Before signing this petition (or any petition) please research, ask questions, write to City Council, go to ChicoValleysEdge.com and see for yourself what a well-planned community looks like.

Valley’s Edge is Chico’s future. We could only hope every developer took this much care and time to protect the environment, our rock walls, our cherished open spaces and yet create a beautiful place to live, work and play, what makes Chico, Chico.
