Thanks to E-R for letters to the editor

Be it noted: We are grateful to publisher Mazi Kavoosi, editor Mike Wolcott, and to the entire staff at the Chico Enterprise-Record, as well as to MediaNews Group, Inc., for the privilege to express our ideas, knowledge, and opinions with our Letters to the Editor.

In addition to provoking contemplation our letters spread our words to a large audience, all of Butte County and beyond. They generate community discussions and enhance the public discourse. Our letters influence elected officials, policy-makers, and public opinion. We inform the readership based on our own actual knowledge and our own actual experiences.

Our letters to the editor give a voice to the timid, the meek, and to those belittled for their values and beliefs. Our letters help us confront bullies and their cancel culture as we publicly disagree with their published opinions, while often correcting falsehoods, fakenews, disinformation, and propaganda. Moreover, letters can offer constructive criticism to letter-writers, urging them to avoid the vile tone of their many letters.

Editor Mike Wolcott is wellknown as one who encourages the public discourse; he and the E-R publish every letter that is fit to print. With his worldly open-mindedness — unbiased and non-partisan, and with our letters to the editor, every day the Chico Enterprise-Record aspires to fulfill the solemn duty of the freepress to seek, then report the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. For that we are grateful.
