Golfers sizzle on fairways
With sizzling summer temperatures upon our local golf community, many of you have escaped to mountain retreats offering moderate daytime highs and cool evenings that are complimented by comradery of friends and family. However, our dear friend and narrator of local golf highlight has taken this summer heat escape to the next level by jumping across the pond with his partner in crime for culinary adventures and cultural immersions. Please join me in congratulating the great local golf play presented in this week's Tee to Green — Snoopy Towers (Ghostwriter)

The annual 3 club + putter tournament is a caddie's dream with lightweight golf bags on the shoulders and simple club selection for shots; players must only carry three selected clubs and their putter in their golf bag, requiring some serious shotmaking from tee to green.
Many players in the field embraced the hot temperatures carding 18-hole net scores in the neighborhood of par with their limited golf club arsenals, however, Brandon Harris' gross 79/net 70 tournament score prevailed for the overall title. Flight 1

Chico-Paradise SIRs
Forty strong supported the bi-monthly Sons in Retirement golf gathering at Bidwell Park GC last week. According to its guru, Darrell Hands, this was a full 100% showing of the local branch, a testament to the game of golf's camaraderie — well done SIRS.
The tournament scoring format was a fourplayer team shamble; all four players tee off, select the best drive, then all four players play their second shot from the chosen golf ball's location and finish the hole playing their own golf ball. Results as follows, net scoring counting all four golf balls.
First place: Jim Barger, Bob Mabrey, Dennis McNamara, Gary White (275.4)
Barger's gross 82/net 57 inspired his team's play. Well done!
Second place: Norm Atkin, Greg Brown, Kyle
Glaziner, Jack Knowlton (293.6)
Third place: Cap Porterfield, Doug Shook, Ken Baker, Don Sturt (298.2)
Fourth place: Dennis Bruggman, Michael Hull, Ray Quinto, Alex Van Patten (299.7)

The par 3 tee shot games of the SIRS were as hot as the week to come during this event. You would have thought Norm Atkin's tee shot on the 12th to 4 feet 11 inches or Lloyd Lee's effort to 3 feet 10 inches on the 2nd or even Mike Gross' play to 1 foot on the 4th were worthy of huge applause — but then, one SIR decided to be the hero at the clubhouse watering hole to make the perfect swing on the par 3 12th hole to make an ace! Congratulations to Greg Brown who ensured great hydration for all 40 SIRS after the round.
Other players taking home a little stipend for their second-place tee shot efforts were: No. 2, Bob Browning; No. 4, Baker; No. 7, McNamara; No. 12, Atkin; and No. 16, Shook.
In closing, the golf shoes have been far too big to fill in regard to this article's creation this week. Special thanks to Anderson for the opportunity to put the ink to paper this week on his behalf while abroad, an absolute privilege to report on our golf community's weekly highlights.
