PV goes 2-1 in 1st day of tourney

The Pleasant Valley softball team won two games and lost one on the first day of the Vikings' home tournament Friday in Chico.

The Vikings lost 5-2 to Inderkum, before defeating Nevada Union 18-0 and defeating McKinleyvi­lle 11-2.

In game one, the Vikings were out-hit 6-5, with runs batted in coming from Lily Thurman and Grace Ferro. Ella Thurman pitched seven innings and allowed six hits, five earned runs, one walk and struck out seven.

In game two against NU, the Vikings scored 10 runs in the first inning and eight runs in the third. Bella Cox, Lily Thurman, Macey Galaxy, Alissa Snipes, Kodi Aisthorpe and Ferro had two hits each. Snipes had five RBI, and Aisthorpe and Lily Thurman had three RBI each. Aisthorpe tossed four innings and allowed two hits, no walks and struck out 10.

No stats were reported for the game against McKinleyvi­lle.

PV (3-1) continues tournament play Saturday against Yuba City and University Prep.

Pleasant Valley tied Del Norte 6-6, before losing 7-6 to Wheatland.

In game one, PV took a 3-0 lead after two innings, Del Norte scored five runs in the third and one in the seventh, but PV scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie. Jake Dahl led PV with two of PV's four hits. Grant Guichard, Joseph Garcia and Holden Franks combined to pitch seven innings, allowing six hits, six runs (one earned), five walks and seven strikeouts.

In game two against Wheatland, the Vikings took a 6-0 lead after two innings, but allowed four runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Dahl had two more hits in game two, and Lucas Benson and Scotty McKeown had two RBI each.

Brayden Lohse, Ashton Carr and Benson combined to pitch 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits,
