EVELYN MENDES

-

On April 9th, 2024 Jesus called by name his daughter Evelyn Mendes. Along with Mother Mary, all the Angels and Saints, and her family by her side Peter opened up the Heavenly gates to Evelyn where her family that had gone before her; husband of 48 years Elmer Mendes, parents John and Frances Leonardo, sisters Frances, Mary, Loutinea, brothers John, Frank, Michael and great grandchild Sloane Renee Mendes welcomed her home with loving arms. Evelyn was 91 years young! She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great, and a great great grandmother, aunt, Godmother and friend her whole life in Glenn County.

Evelyn is survived by her eight children, Diana (Clint) Millsaps, Ron (Doreen) Mendes, LaLa (Chuck) Edwards, John Mendes, Steven (Michelle) Mendes, Jody (Donna) Mendes, Francine Ferreira (Lester Calvert), Rhonda (Joel) Snow, 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, sister Delores Amaro and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.

Evelyn devoted her whole adult life to her family and church. She was a breast cancer survivor at the age of 85, was a volunteer at the United Way Thrift store and was a member of St. Monica’s YLI for over 50 years. You may recall the fun you had on one of the many Reno bus trips Evelyn organized or received a greeting card from her during her time as Ms. Sunshine. Her faith to Jesus, Mother Mary and the rosary were a strong part of her daily life, all the way to the end.

We all know there is only so much time in each day and everyone talks about how hard it is to FIND time for what is important. Evelyn MADE time. Not by magic but by sacrifice. She made time to raise and support her children and guide them through their own life’s goals and dreams as adults. She was blessed enough to watch her children become grandparents themselves.

Evelyn is the mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, Godmother, and friend we are all thankful to have had and will always cherish.

Viewing will be held Sunday, April 21 from 2pm-4pm at F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary located at 114 N. Shasta Street, Willows.

A rosary will be said for Evelyn at 6pm Sunday evening, with a 10am mass to follow on Monday, April 22 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church 1129 W. Wood Street, Willows.
