Dream versus reality

-

I can certainly relate to “Moment of Truth” (Back Page, EQUUS 438). Having grown up in a rural area around horses, it was always my dream to someday get back to the country. About five years ago my husband and I bought a 14 ½-acre farmette. At the time I had three horses, and the little farm had everything I could have asked for. But it became a lot of work to keep our place looking nice.

Summer meant mowing and weed eating, and winter meant snow removal. We had no viable way to remove the deep snow and drifts from our drive. We spent more time working on our place and less time with each other and doing the things we loved to do. So just over three years later, and with a heavy heart, we sold the little farm and moved back into our small hometown. It’s not the same but at least we have time to do the things we like, and more importantly, time to spend with each other. Lynette Kent Milledgeville, Illinois
