REGRET

-

Regret, 1912, was, as previously mentioned, the first filly, and still one of only three, to win the Kentucky Derby, a

feat which she accomplished in 1915. She raced and won against the best colts and remained competitive until 5 years of age. By Broomstick out of Jersey Lightning, Regret traces to Lexington through Riley, another Kentucky Derby winner. Regret had 11 career starts with nine wins, all at classic distances. As a broodmare, Regret produced only one major stakes winner. The photo presented here highlights her very correct conformation: Note particularly the lovely shoulder; broad, shield-shaped knees; substantial hocks; ideally -angulated hind limbs; and big pelvis with prominent points of buttock.
