MORGANS AT WORK

This very interesting photo dates to about 1875 and shows the stallions Morgan Tiger (1868, a great-grandson of Sherman Morgan and Billy Root 1829), and Morgan Star (1855, by Black Hawk out of an unknown mare). The horses are harnessed to a chaise driven by Amos H. Rockwell without bridles or reins. A contemporary newspaper account reports that Rockwell “drove them in the public streets, guiding and controlling them entirely by the use of a 10-foot whip … and exhibited them in every state in the Union.”
