Next time you're at the thrift store, pick up an inexpensive hair dryer for the barn. these appliances have a multitude of uses, particularly in the winter:

• Drying small areas of a horse’s coat, such as pasterns being treated for scratches. use the lowest setting to avoid inadvertent overheating and damage.

• De-icing frozen locks and latches after a winter storm

• Warming bits (just be careful you don’t overheat them)

• Softening frozen ointments, again using to lowest setting.
