LINIMENTS
Used for: soothing tired muscles after exertion Action: rapid cooling of tissues via evaporation and/ or increased circulation and associated “warming” through counterirritation. Common active ingredients: alcohol, witch hazel, menthol, camphor, aromatic oils Application: added to a bucket of water and sponged over the entire horse as a “brace” or rubbed directly onto the target area without dilution. Limbs may be wrapped after liniment application for enhanced “warming” effects. Cautions: Excessive or improper use can lead to blistering of the skin or overheating of tissues, especially underneath wraps.
