Pro­teins in the urine, called py­ro­cat­e­chines, ox­i­dize in low tem­per­a­tures, which pro­duces col­ors rang­ing from a light pink to red, orange or brown. The same thing can oc­cur when a sam­ple of urine is re­frig­er­ated.
