A golden rule

Regarding what constitures abuse (“Welfare Check,” EQUUS 492), whether it involves cleaning water troughs, deciding whether my horses are up to being saddled and ridden, or anything in between, the criterion I’ve always used is: Is this the way I would want to be treated?
