THE LOUISIANA STORY
Finer-limbed and more upright through the shoulder than Peter McCue, Della Moore nonetheless proved herself to be a tough, sound mare of indomitable courage, who produced several important foundational Quarter Horse sires mentioned in the text.
Della Moore’s pedigree in many ways parallels that of Peter McCue. Like him, she is close to three-quarters Thoroughbred and also carries the same even balance of Herod vs. Eclipse sire-lines, with one line to Matchem. She presents multiple lines to high-quality horses known for soundness as much as speed: Touchstone, Sir Peter Teazle, Lexington and Sir Archy.
An excellent chalk rendition by Cheri Luce of Della Moore’s sire, Dedier or “D.J.,” which was made in consultation with many Louisianans who knew and remembered the stallion. Note the big hindquarters, fine neck, substantial hocks, and short, upright fore pasterns.
