Wire wariness

-

I had never given wire ingestion much consideration because I have no wire fences or wire of any sort around the horses, but your article (“The Dangers of Wire Ingestion,” Medical Front, EQUUS 495) reminded me just how insidious this can be. Standing nearby as my Saddlebred enjoyed his alfalfa cubes, I was startled when he coughed and a three-inch wire hit me, ejected from his mouth! Harvested and pressed into cubes, the alfalfa held a danger that I never saw when I scooped it into his bucket. I now examine everything that goes into my horse’s buckets closely. Keep up the good reporting. Nancy Obertz Westhampton, Massachusetts
