EQUUS

CLAY CHILDERS,

-

by Clay Kismet, was foaled in 1901. This is yet another of Huntington’s stunningly beautiful horses. Unfortunately this caring owner, fine horseman and perspicaceous breeder—a man whose thinking was far ahead of his time— had less impact on American horse breeding than we might have wished. Huntington’s story is ultimately a sad one, for he was cheated by business partners, hurt by a stock market crash, and eventually his farm and all his horses went to the auction block to satisfy creditors. Although he was unable to achieve his dream of creating an American national horse, the blood of Huntington’s horses lives on today in both the American Arabian and the American Standardbred.
