THIS MONTH’S EXPERTS
Laurent L. Couetil, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, is professor of large animal internal medicine as well as director of equine research programs and director of the Equine Sports Medicine Center at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He received his doctorate from the University of Liege in Belgium and his veterinary degree from the National Veterinary School of Alfort in France.
Melinda Freckleton, DVM, is founder and operator of Firestar Veterinary Services, LLC, in Catlett, Virginia. A graduate from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, she served on the 2012 equine committee for the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association Conference as well as the AAEP Task Force on Referral Guidelines and Ethics. Freckleton enjoys riding and competing in dressage and taking care of her dogs, cats and horses on her small farm.
David Frisbie, DVM, PhD, is a professor of equine surgery at Colorado State University’s Equine Orthopaedic Research Center, where he is the Director of Research. He is also a partner in
Equine Sports Medicine, LLC, which specializes in orthopedics and sports medicine. Frisbie is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Founding Fellow of Minimally Invasive Surgery (Large Animal Orthopaedics) and a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Martin K. Nielsen, DVM, PhD, DEVPC, DACVM, is an associate professor of equine parasitology at the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research
Center, University of Kentucky. His research is dedicated to providing solutions for equine parasite control and includes development and refinement of diagnostic techniques, objective evaluation of deworming regimens and anthelmintic resistance.
