An­nual 9-11 Me­mo­rial, ECA Events Sched­uled

The 9-11 Com­mu­nity Moment of Si­lence and Prayer, ob­served ev­ery Sept. 11 at the Escalon Fire Sta­tion #1 on Co­ley Av­enue, is sched­uled for Tues­day, Sept. 11.

Escalon Fire Chief Rick Mello said the fire dis­trict will have this cer­e­mony each year as long as he is serv­ing as chief, with all in the com­mu­nity in­vited to at­tend.

The brief cer­e­mony be­gins at 9:11 a.m. in front of the fire­house at 1749 Co­ley and typ­i­cally in­cludes a guest speaker, a brief over­view of the events of 9-11 in 2001 with the ter­ror­ist at­tacks on the Pen­tagon, the Twin Tow­ers in New York City and the down­ing of a plane in Penn­syl­va­nia, short of its in­tended target.

A flag rais­ing and low­er­ing cer­e­mony is con­ducted as well.

Prior to that Tues­day, Sept. 11 ob­ser­vance, Escalon Com­mu­nity Am­bu­lance is of­fer­ing its third an­nual Mem­ber­ship Ap­pre­ci­a­tion pan­cake break­fast. The en­tire com­mu­nity is wel­come to at­tend; come and meet the paramedics and EMTs of Escalon Com­mu­nity Am­bu­lance and learn more about the ser­vice and what it pro­vides to the com­mu­nity. The event is set from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Escalon Com­mu­nity Cen­ter on Sun­day, Sept. 9. ECA mem­bers eat for free; for non-mem­bers, the cost is $5 for adults, $2 for chil­dren.
