There’s nothing like Rentown Old Fashion Days
BREMEN – It’s a singular event in Marshall County.
With its combination of food, activities, vendors and community, Rentown Old Fashion Days is a one-ofkind festival.
The event is always the second weekend in September, which is Sept. 7 and 8 this year.
“This event is always a highlight for the small of community of Rentown – being as it is a 100 percent … fundraiser for Rolling Meadow School,” said Dennis Hochstetler, one of the event’s organizers and owner of Rentown Country Store, 1530 3rd Road, Bremen.
“As you park at 2640 Birch Road and walk into the show grounds you will see that not only are the parents involved but also the school children,” he said. “As you enter you will see lots of venders: fresh, local produce, antique goods, arts and crafts, blacksmithing and original art, such as rug weaving and painting.
“Then you go out to the field for even more. There
will be steam tractors, a saw mill, threshing, and old hit and miss engines plowing with horses,” he continued.
And there will be plenty of activities for children, Hochstetler said. There will be train rides, an animal petting area and a tug-o’-war between children and work horses.
“This year’s feature event is an old time timber framing, which is a must see,” Hochstetler said.
But one of the largest draws is the food.
“Of course, you know the Amish: They will have lots of food,” he said. “So be hungry when you come because we have ham and bean soup made over an open fire, brats with all the fixin’s, burgers, fry pies, coffee, hot and cold cider – and best of all the huge bake sale.”
