An Update on Our Ongoing DIY Project

THE “TRUE BLUE” SAGA CONTINUES. IN Issue No. 4, we announced the start of our 1963 F-100 DIY project with promises to keep our readers updated each issue, no matter how slow the progress. As we all know, life happens … so in this issue, we bring you part three.

What all have we accomplished since part two? We got down to the bare necessities, removed the entire wiring harness and sent it out to the guys at

MiTy Motorsports to shorten it up and customize it for our particular use. We also moved the build into Solomon’s backyard so all the neighbors don’t have to watch the madness that will ensue. Next, we removed all the bolt-on panels, fenders, doors, trunk lid, etc. Then we whipped out the trusty Sawzall with plenty of blades and got to cutting. Because Solomon has done a similar swap once before, he had an idea of where to start. And because he was doing this by himself, he couldn’t slice the pieces too big.

Cutting is always the fun part, but you really have to make sure you cut in all the right spots for a clean “mash-up” once the Crown Vic parts meet the F-100 body. First to go was the rear portion of the roof, along with the rear quarter panels. Once they were removed and out of the way, we began cutting out the wheel wells. Because we want to keep some of the floor and firewall to weld onto the F-100, we kind of followed a factory seam that paralleled the frame. Once the back half was cut out, Solomon proceeded to cut the rocker panels and some of the firewall.

In the next phase of the surgery, we will move over to I95 Motorsports along with the F-100 so we can use a four-post lift, remove the F-100 body from the frame and cut the floor and firewall out for the rest of the swap. Then we will be going back to the Crown Vic with more precise cuts to marry the two together. Stay tuned for the next issue to continue to see this build come together.
