DEDICATION PAYS OFF

Our son Joshua bought this tractor from a neighbor. It hadn’t run in more than 10 years. It’s a ’67 John Deere 5020 with a Detroit 8V-71 re-power. Joshua overhauled the motor and painted it, all while enrolled in a John Deere Tech program 3½ hours away. He came home on weekends and worked on it continuously. An FFA project, the tractor was completed in time to exhibit at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. After graduating, Joshua worked as a John Deere technician for about a year, then ran his own shop on our family farm for two years. His work is in such high demand he’s now building a new shop in a more well-traveled location nearby.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Turn the page to read Julie’s story about her daughter Jenny’s pink tractor, a salute to family members and others who have battled breast cancer.
