Field and Stream
FOR MANY OF US, staying away from people isn’t exactly a hardship. Yet there does seem to be more competition in the woods and on water. All told, Covid-19 measures have been a mixed bag for outdoorsmen. Here are some ups and downs:
Resident hunting and fishing license sales: way up. It’s not a long-term recruitment strategy, but we’ll take it.
Nonresident sales. One week of hunting; two of quarantine.
Odds of seeing a whooping crane, as staff cuts at zoos have slashed fall releases of the rare birds.
Gun sales: Also way up. After all, the apocalypse does seem increasingly imminent.
