This sip boosts “the detox enzyme” by 80%

-

The catechins in green tea make it a natural all-star when it comes to detox: Scientists in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention found that the antioxidant compounds increase the body’s production of the enzyme glutathione S-transferase (GST) by 80 percent. Why that matters: GST, also known as “the detox enzyme,” is crucial to the body’s ability to protect itself against damage caused by carcinogens, and it helps the liver break down fats and flush toxins more efficiently. You’d need to drink 8 to 16 cups of green tea a day to consume enough catechins to boost GST, so experts advise supplementing. In the study, participants took a pill containing 800 mg of the catechin EGCg each morning on an empty stomach. One to try: NOW Foods EGCg Green Tea Extract 400 mg ($16 for 180 capsules, iHerb.com).
