Stuck sitting down all day? Try this
Too much “chair time” is known to raise the risk of diabetes, but it can be tough to walk away from your desk on busy days. The good news: Exercising your arms can reduce the risk, say scientists in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism. In their study, when people who sat for 5 hours took 5 minutes every half hour to move their arms, their blood-sugar levels fell by 58 percent and post-meal insulin production dropped by 20 percent. The researchers say exercising any muscles helps the body process sugar, preventing insulin overproduction. To get the perks, keep a pair of light weights at your desk and do arm raises and bicep curls twice an hour.
