Thinning hair

These kitchen staples nourish strands for healthier locks after just one wash

Reduces fallout:

Apple cider vinegar

Dry skin and product buildup on the scalp can clog hair follicles, causing strands to shed. But apple cider vinegar’s acetic acid thwarts hair loss by sloughing off any residue to unclog follicles, plus it balances the scalp’s pH to reduce dryness.

TO DO: Massage 1 cup of the vinegar onto the scalp and roots of wet hair, let sit 5 minutes then rinse.

Ends frizz:

Beer

Use of hot tools and hair dyes makes hair damaged and porous, which causes strands to soak up any moisture it comes into contact with. The result? Frizz. To the rescue: Beer’s protein and vitamin B12 fortify strands so cuticles lay flat and absorb less moisture, leaving locks sleek and smooth.

TO DO: In the shower, saturate hair with a room-temperature can of beer. Let sit for 3 minutes; rinse with cool water.

Boosts shine:

Lemon

Cold winter air tends to sap the luster out of strands. Lemon can restore it. Its citric acid is an astringent that smooths down the cuticle so light can reflect off locks for a healthy sheen. Plus, lemon’s lightening abilities bring out natural highlights in all hair hues so locks appear brighter.

TO DO: Mix 2 cups of water with the juice of 1 lemon; pour evenly onto to hair. Let sit 1 minute; rinse with cool water.
