On morn­ings when we’re too har­ried for a homemade break­fast, we rely on the drive-through for a quick bite. But we had to think twice about our short­cut when we learned most fast food con­tains emul­si­fiers, like guar gum, that stim­u­late the growth of bad bac­te­ria in the gut. Stud­ies show these ad­di­tives can in­crease fat-pack­ing in­flam­ma­tion and slow me­tab­o­lism, caus­ing weight gain. We can’t have that, so we went in search of fast-food break­fasts made with­out emul­si­fiers and came up with some tasty of­fer­ings.
