“I earn a full-time salary blogging about my garden”

“After I left my job in marketing and sales, I didn’t know what to do next, but I’d always had a passion for gardening. My mother-in-law suggested I follow that passion, but I didn’t have a degree or any professional experience. Yet when I learned that I could make money blogging, I was so excited.

“Starting the blog was surprisingly easy. I purchased the domain name ShawnaCoronado.com and initially used Google, a free hosting site. I write posts about things like how to plant herbs and grow tulip bulbs, and I offer tips for composting, but I also write about how connecting with nature makes us healthy. Plus, I post videos of gardening tips on YouTube. Two of my blog posts that have received a lot of traffic include a story about a farm-to-table adventure I took and one about how I learned to design and blacksmith a garden tool.

“The blog makes money with Google ads, YouTube ads and sponsored posts— when companies hire me to write about their products. As a result of my blog, I have now written five books and have been hired as a paid speaker. I market the blog on social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“Blogging about gardening is so much fun and I enjoy working from home and being my own boss. The money I make from this work—a full-time income— pays for travel and my daughters’ college savings plans!”
