“For this year’s feast, my kids and I want to dress up plates to make our guests feel spe­cial,” shares Patty Bon­tekoe, FIRST deputy ed­i­tor. “So we came up with the idea to cre­ate whim­si­cal turkey plate top­pers us­ing mini gourds from the farm­ers’ mar­ket. To make, I turn a mini pump­kin on its side and glue on pep­per­corn eyes and a yel­low paper beak above the stem. Then I glue wispy grass to the back of the gourd as feath­ers and place it in a bowl or atop a plate. We can’t wait to set them out for fam­ily on Turkey Day!”
