First For Women

“I earn up to $5,000 making gift baskets!”

-

“A few years ago, someone in my office received a holiday gift basket filled with gourmet food and flowers. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was! Another person in my office told the lady who made it that I was raving about it, and to my surprise, she returned the next day and brought me one! I loved it so much, I wanted to make one myself. The woman graciously offered to show me how. When I saw how easy it was to do, I realized I could sell them too and make extra cash during the holidays.

“I found my first client right away—my previous employer who asked me to make them as gifts for his clients. Then, using a template, I created a website for the business, found a store that sold wholesale items so I could buy the baskets in bulk and ordered some items online.

“My clients tell me what they’re looking for: maybe it’s a certain color, a princess or Hello Kitty theme, or a gluten-free or vegan basket. I fill the baskets with items like stuffed animals, dolls, gourmet treats, candy and coffee mugs. I make elaborate bows using five layers of ribbon, which I quickly got the hang of.

“My business is entirely word-ofmouth referrals. I always include my card in every basket so people can reorder the following year. I charge between $20 and $550 per basket, depending on what my clients ask for.

“Making these baskets gives me a creative outlet, and it’s a personalized gift that makes people happy. Plus, I earn up to $5,000 around the holidays! That money helps me purchase gifts for my child, nieces, nephews and Godchildren.”
