Weak bones

First For Women - - Contents -

In a double-blind, placebocontrolled study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, adult women who received a supplement containing Lactobacillus reuteri daily for one year experienced 50% less bone loss in their lower legs than women who received a placebo.

The Swedish investigators theorize that this specific strain of bacteria promotes increased absorption of bone-strengthening calcium, and they say supplementing with Lactobacillus reuteri, which is found in many over-the-counter probiotic products, is a safe, effective way to help prevent osteoporosis.
