A fix-it-and-forget-it twist on a classic New Orleans dish, this stew is an easy way to impress dinner-party guests

In 6-qt. slow cooker, combine first 9 ingredient­s, 1⁄4 tsp. salt and 1⁄4 tsp. pepper. Cover; cook on low 4 hrs. just until shrimp is opaque. Stir in filé powder. Cook until slightly thickened, 3 min., stirring. Discard bay leaf. Serve over cauliflowe­r rice, if desired.

*INSTANT POT VARIATION: Combine ingredient­s as directed above in a 6-qt. Instant Pot. Lock lid. Set to cook on low pressure 5 min. Use natural release 2 min., then quick release. Leave “keep warm” function active while stirring in filé powder or cornstarch.
