Seed combats obesity by boosting gut health by 75%

New animal research at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found that flaxseed, a popular smoothie add-in, can protect against obesity. After 12 weeks, mice fed a high-fat diet with flaxseed had a 75% more diverse microbiome than those given a high-fat diet without the seed. This is a key finding because flaxseed fibers are known to positively influence the gut microbiome, which regulates obesity and glucose tolerance. Bonus: The flaxseed group was more physically active and gained 10% less weight.
