In a University of California at Riverside study, investigat­ors analyzed the self-reported stress levels and conversati­ons of couples facing one partner’s illness. The findings? It was easier for significan­t others to spot the upsides in a negative situation, which helped reduce their loved one’s stress. The authors believe this may be because partners bring fresh perspectiv­es to a challenge.
