Just 20 minutes in a park boosts contentment
Taking a quick break outside can have powerful effects on overall well-being, report investigators in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research. When they surveyed visitors at an urban park, 60% experienced a significant jump in scores of life satisfaction and mood after 20 minutes regardless of whether or not they exercised while there. The study authors say being in a “green space”—like a park out in fresh air and away from urban noise—facilitates relaxation, reduces stress and improves mood.
