BUSTY? Try an A-line jean skirt

-

Take a trip to the mall this time of year, and you’ll see an onslaught of skinny jeans, denim jackets and chambray button-downs. Too bad they’re all things that can accentuate broad shoulders or a larger bust. Enter the latest in denim offerings: skirts! The key is to steer clear of formfitting minis and look for skirts with some figure-flattering volume, says stylist Eric Himel, who has worked with Ali Larter and Rachel Brosnahan. His go-to? An A-line wrap skirt. “The side-tie waist lends definition in the middle and the slight flare from hip to knee creates an upside-down mimic of the width and volume up top—together giving the illusion of an hourglass,” says Himel.

What also helps: tucking in a tailored blouse (it redistributes the body’s proportions) with a smallscale, busy print (it camouflages larger areas) tricks the eye into seeing a narrower top. Accessories like metallic gold bracelets, pom-pom–embellished hoop earrings and neutral-toned ankle-strap sandals add dazzle, pizzazz and flirty flair that

detract from the shoulders and chest.
