Hypnosis eases pain
Hypnosis or hypnotherapy, a trance-like state of relaxation in which concentration is heightened, can provide drug-free relief for some chronic pain sufferers, report researchers in the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews. Subjects with chronic pain who were receptive to hypnosis (typically imaginative, empathetic people with a sharp sense of focus) saw over a 40% reduction in pain levels. Study authors say the effectiveness of hypnosis increases through training and practice. To find a hypnotherapist in your area, check the General Hypnotherapy Register or the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
