Black Forest Layer Cake

1 (15.25 oz.) pkg. chocolate fudge
cake mix
Water, eggs and oil
1⁄2 tsp. almond extract
2 (16 oz.) cans dark chocolate
frosting
1 cup heavy cream
3 Tbs. confectioners’ sugar
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling Chocolate curls (optional) 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Coat 2 (9") cake pans with cooking spray. Prepare cake mix with water, eggs and oil per directions; stir in extract. Transfer to pans. Bake until pick inserted into centers comes out clean, 24–29 min. Cool 10 min. Transfer from pans to racks; cool.
2 Transfer 1 cake layer to serving plate. Spread top of cake with 1 cup frosting. Top with remaining cake layer; spread top and side of cake with remaining frosting.
3 On medium-high speed, beat cream and sugar until stiff. In batches, transfer whipped cream to pastry bag fitted with star tip. Drain pie filling slightly; spread over cake top, mounding in center.
