An extra-special delivery

-

“Tucked in with my mail one day, I found a letter from overseas that looked like military mail with a unit number in the return address. Seeing that the house number it should have gone to was down the street, I headed there to drop it off.

“As I walked, I couldn’t help but think of the year my son served in Iraq. It was the toughest time of my life, but once he got home, I felt so very blessed and even started an online support group for families with a loved one who is deployed. I jotted the info down on the back of the envelope along with my cell number and slipped the letter into my neighbor’s mail slot.

“That evening, she called. She shed thankful tears and we talked for an hour about her daughter in the military and how excited she was to join my support group.

“‘I’m so glad the mailman sent my daughter’s letter to your house by mistake,’ she said.

“‘It’s no mistake,’ I replied.

‘I’d say it was an extra-special meant-to-be delivery.’”
