Here’s a reason to take time for your usual morning cup of joe, especially on busy days: Routines help you get more done, say researchers reporting in the journal Personnel Psychology. They surveyed people three times a day for three weeks, tracking their routines and their energy levels, productivity and sense of calm, and found that people were more anxious, tired and unfocused on days their routines were disrupted. Investigators explain that routines free the brain from thinking about mundane tasks so you can free up mental energy for checking off your to-do’s.
